Scott Friedman

Principal

As a Principal at IEc with over 20 years of environmental consulting and project management experience, Scott Friedman’s work focuses on quantifying impacts resulting from contaminant releases and oil spills, estimating associated damages, and developing compensatory restoration projects. Mr. Friedman has a strong background in contaminants, ecology, toxicology, site assessment, restoration, damage determination, and project management and has worked across a wide variety of ecosystems and species. Mr. Friedman has a decade of spill response and field sampling experience and currently serves as IEc’s Response Coordinator. During an incident, Mr. Friedman provides oversight for all logistics, field operations, and health and safety. He is well versed in all phases of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) process and associated federal and state regulations. Mr. Friedman has determined, assessed, and quantified the impacts and damages resulting from PFAS, VOCs, metals, oil spills, PCBs, mining releases, and other hazardous substances. Mr. Friedman is an accomplished Program Manager with experience managing complex scientific and technical engagements. He is routinely called upon to manage interdisciplinary teams of ecologists, toxicologists, statisticians, economists, and modelers and provide strategy and technical support in the context of litigation and mediation.

Scott holds a B.A. in Biology from Colby College, and a Master of Science from the College of William and Mary. His thesis is entitled “Mercury Exposure in Terrestrial Insectivorous Birds.”

Mr. Friedman has supported the development of multiple Excel-based models for quantifying damages from small to medium volume contaminant releases and oil spills. For example, Mr. Friedman has provided support to the MassDEP in developing standard methods to more efficiently seek compensatory natural resource damages for injuries to surface waters and groundwater from releases of oil and/or hazardous materials.
